The Dynamic Two-Seater Returns

There's no feeling quite like the one you get when you hit a stretch of open road and enjoy the opportunity to let the Porsche 718 Boxster loose. Just let the top down, settle in, and suddenly the jaunt from Beaufort to Savannah, GA goes by in what seems like no time at all, as you ease into each curve and devour each straightaway.

Porsche 718 Boxster Exterior

The 2018 Boxster manages the unique ability to offer both retro and modern styling in one vehicle, as befits a current-era sports car that's heavily-influenced by the Porsche 550 Spyder made famous by James Dean. Every design element has a reason, from the sleek profile to the sculpted sides and audacious curves, so there's no sense of excessive design for its own sake. As we mentioned above, the Boxster almost insists to be driven with the fabric roof down, but it's still quite a handsome vehicle when you choose to leave it up.

Porsche 718 Boxster Interior

There's no point in sugarcoating it: you're going to sit low in the Porsche 718 Boxster -- as you should. The driving position is ideally-suited, with the key placed in its traditional position left of the three-spoke steering wheel. A narrow armrest sits between the sport seats, with a transmission tunnel leading to the 7-inch touchscreen audio and communication system. Soft leather and aluminum trim touches abound, emphasizing the sports car's luxurious nature.

Porsche 718 Boxster Features

You'll enjoy such standard features as a power-operated roof, a Home-Link garage door opener, rearview camera and front and rear parking sensors. The standard 7-inch infotainment system includes a touchscreen, a 6-speaker audio system with AM/DM/satellite/HD radio with CD/DVD drive, 11 gigs of internal storage and inputs for both USB and SD cards, as well as Bluetooth® streaming.

You can add a multitude of options to your 2018 Boxster, either a la carte or as part of a package. From navigation to a heated steering wheel and 14- or 18-way power seats, there are plenty of available amenities that will only add to your luxurious interior. Optional driving aids include blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control, while torque vectoring technology and carbon-ceramic brakes enhance your driving experience.

Porsche 718 Boxster Performance

Multiple turbocharged four-cylinder engines are available, starting with a standard 2.0-liter that makes 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The 718 Boxster S gets a 2.5-liter four cylinder that generates 250 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque, while the GTS gets a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with direct-injection to manufacture 365 horsepower. A 7-speed manual transmission comes standard, as it should, but the available 7-speed PDK automatic transmission is likely far faster at changing gears than you are -- which makes it a worthy upgrade if you tend to drive in heavy traffic around Hilton Head, Hardeeville and Bluffton.

Since the engine is mounted in the middle of the car, and is a flat design, the Boxster offers stellar balance. Rear-wheel drive allows for immediate power delivery to the wheels, so you'd best be ready to take command when you press the accelerator.

Porsche 718 Boxster

This is the base model of the 2018 Porsche 718 Boxster, but there's absolutely nothing basic about it. Featuring Bi-Xenon headlights, a net-type wind deflector and 18-inch Boxster wheels, this sporty two-seater also comes with four-piston aluminum monoblock fixed brake calipers in red on the front and rear tires, as well as a centrally-positioned tailpipe. Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower, the Boxster can take it from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds, while still offering an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 24 mpg combined.

Porsche 718 Boxster S

The new 718 Boxster S comes with the same headlights and brake calipers as the 718 Boxster, as well as the Porsche Communication Management System that includes mobile phone preparation and Sound Package Plus but it features a few upgrades that are noteworthy indeed. This two-seater rides on 19-inch Boxster wheels, and features twin tailpipes that are centrally-positioned. The Boxster S is motivated by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 350 horsepower and can hit a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds, with a top track speed of 177 mph. Combined city/highway fuel economy for this model is an EPA-estimated 22mpg.

Porsche 718 Boxster GTS

The performance-minded Boxster GTS features a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with direct fuel injection, delivering a healthy 365 horsepower when you need it. The turbocharger has been specifically engineered to handle the engine's output, allowing it to offer ideal performance and efficiency. The 2018 718 Boxster GTS comes with standard aluminum monobloc fixed brake calipers, in red, that are both light and deformation-resistant. You can also opt to upgrade to the proven Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes that provide more powerful -- and consistent -- braking force. This athletic sports car boasts a top track speed of 180 mph.
